Around 30 of the merchants who do business in the tourist zone at Chapala’s Malecón staged a protest march Sunday, June 7, clamoring for the local government’s authorization to reopen their stalls, shuttered since late March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We want to work. We’re dying of hunger,” read one of the hand-lettered signs carried by one of the marchers during the peaceful demonstration along the full length of Avenida Madero.
The lakefront boardwalks have been off-limits to visitors for the past 12 weeks.
