Chapalense nails Miss Jalisco title

Bright and beautiful Chapala contestant Mariana Macias was awarded the title Miss Jalisco 2019 in a closed-door pageant final held Friday, June 26, after a series of competition setbacks.

The contest was held over from last year due to organizational complications and further delayed when the Covid-19 pandemic struck just after the 15 contenders were announced in late February. The pageant was totally redesigned to comprise a series of rounds held in diverse virtual formats over four months, with the final postponed from the original March 21 date to last week.

Macias, 26, hails from San Antonio Tlayacapan. She holds a university degree in marketing and currently works as a weightlifting and spinning instructor at Zona Fitness Gym in Riberas del Pilar. In 2015, she took third place in the contest to be the ambassador of Guadalajara’s annual International Mariachi and Charrería Festival.

Macias will go up against representatives from other states in the 2020 Miss Mexico pageant, tentatively slated for sometime in October or November. The definitive date will be set depending on the pandemic’s evolving risk conditions.

The other 2019 Miss Jalisco contestants automatically qualified to face off again in the fall, in a bid to capture the 2020 state title and earn a shot at the 2021 Miss Mexico crown.
