Chapala mayor hosts security meeting for business sector

Chapala Mayor Moisés Anaya hosted a meeting between representatives of the commercial sector and authorities from three levels of government on Monday, December 7, to hash out ideas on implementing more effective crime prevention strategies in the community.

pg14dThe gathering was scheduled on the heels of recent acts of violence in which one local entrepreneur was shot and seriously wounded, and a restaurateur was slain, both occurring at the doorsteps of their respective places of business.

Officials seated at the podium with the mayor were Jalisco’s Strategic Security Coordinator, Ricardo Sánchez Beruben; Secretary of Security, Juan Bosco Agustín Pacheco Medrano; and Secretary of Tourism, Germán Ralis Cumplido. Others in attendance included Alejandro Plaza, director of C5 Urban Shield that manages the state’s video surveillance camera system and 911 emergency hotline, as well as the regional coordinator of the National Guard, the regional commander of the state police force, the commissar of state traffic police, and the president of the Jalisco restaurant chamber, CANIRAC.

The meeting started with audience participation as various restaurateurs, hoteliers and other business operators aired their growing concerns about public safety and suggestions on how to confront the problem.
