Chapala’s current administration has made improving public sports facilities a top priority of its public works agenda, so that local youth and families can exercise, practice team activities and enjoy outings in a healthy atmosphere.
The government has tapped into state funding and its own resources to finance projects in all corners of the municipality.
Getting underway is a major renovation of the sprawling Unidad Deportiva located in Chapala’s Plaza de Toros neighborhood, for which the Jalisco government is putting up just under 12 million pesos to cover the project’s expenses.
The work will encompass a top-to-bottom rehabilitation of the facility’s soccer field, including replacement of the natural grass surface maintained by the underground installation of an irrigation system, new roofing for the spectator seating benches, remodeling of restrooms and dressing rooms, repairs of the perimeter walls and floodlights added for after-dark activities.
Improvements in the area of the multi-use courts include construction of new bathrooms and spectator stands, plus a ramp for the disabled and access for emergency vehicles.
The project also includes the rehab of green areas throughout the complex with assorted trees and ornamental plantings.
