The FoodBank Challenge: Who will donate the one millionth peso?

As new and existing donors to FoodBank Lakeside rally to provide crucial support to one of Lakeside’s most vital charities, the One Million Peso Challenge is very close to identifying a key person – whoever contributes the 1,000,000th peso by December 31, thus ensuring the campaign’s success.

As of Tuesday, December 20, more than 900,000 pesos has been donated to FoodBank Lakeside, allowing it in 2023 to continue providing weekday lunches to 700 to 800 impoverished children via kids kitchens, plus delivering monthly despensas of basic grocery items (beans, rice, oats, milk, eggs, soap, toilet paper, etcetera) to about 700 needy families, the elderly and disabled.

Challenge supporters will congratulate the “Millionth Peso Giver” online and in a special way in 2023, still to be determined.

“Our 100-day, fall fundraising effort ends December 31. Between now and then, many local U.S. expats will consider charitable donations they can write off on their U.S. income taxes,” said Steve Taylor, One Million Peso Challenge co-chair.  “Our Challenge is a great, late opportunity to make a tax-deductible contribution that makes a difference in this community – and be recognized publicly.”
