In the latest shuffle of top officials at Chapala City Hall, José Luis Chávez Rivas was sworn in as the administration’s third head of Hacienda, the municipal treasury, during the June 6 session of the Cabildo (city council).
Chávez was pulled off his job as director of social development to fill in for José Guadalupe Dueñas Acosta who tendered his resignation as treasurer on May 30. Dueñas in turn had replaced Jaime Nicolás Padilla Ramos who quit the post barely three months into the 2021-2024 term.
At the beginning of the administration Chávez served as coordinator of economic development prior to his appointment to head social development. He had previously held various government jobs during Alejandro Aguirre’s first term as mayor, 2001-2003.
Aguirre’s current administration has been riddled with top level staff changes over the past year and a half, including recent departures of department chiefs in regulations and vigilance, human resources, and mobility that have yet to be officially confirmed.
