Athletes looking for racing challenges this fall have opportunities to enter two events coming up in the Lake Chapala region.
The second annual Papalote Trail Axixic is scheduled for Sunday, October 8, offering runners dual options for scrambling over routes though the town’s neighboring mountain ranges. Both the seven- and 24-kilometer contests are open in men’s and women’s divisions, each divided into three age categories. The maximum number of entries for either race is limited to 300 racers. Enrollment for the short race costs 450 pesos per head, while inscription in the long run is priced at 500 pesos. For further information consult the Papalote Trail Axixic Facebook site or enquire in person at Boutique Luz, Calle Hidalgo 1, around the corner from Delegación Ajijic headquarters.
The next confirmed race will be a 21K Chapala half marathon on the calendar for Sunday, November 19, with a collateral five kilometer race on the same date. The races will start and finish at the Chapala Malecón, with contestants following a track along the Chapala-San Nicolás highway.
Competition open for up to 2,000 runners will be broken into male and female divisions, with a single category for the 5km run, and three age categories and a single category for handicapped athletes in the 21km race. Find full details posted at carreraschapala.com.
