End of an era at LCS?

Times are changing at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) as new leadership is gradually inducted over the next nine months.

pg1bSteve Balfour stepped down as LCS president on June 20 after presiding at the open meeting of the board of directors. Yolanda Martínez Llamas was immediately promoted from the vice president’s seat to serve as president until a new head officer is elected at the Extraordinary Meeting (EM) scheduled for August 20, 10 a.m. to Noon.

Balfour has held major LCS posts since September, 2019 when he took over employment as the organization’s Executive Director. He was subsequently elected as board president at the August 2020 Annual General Meeting, a session of the membership that was postponed from March of that year due to the outbreak of the Covid pandemic. He was reelected at the 2022 AGM .

Most recently Balfour resumed his job as Executive Director on an interim basis following the April resignation of Luis Francisco Pacheco. He will continue in the position indefinitely until a new senior manager is hired.

According to this week’s report to the board, recruitment of a replacement is well underway. Balfour and the board’s executive committee are the process of reviewing more than a dozen resumés of applicants who have put in bids for Executive Director so far. The top five will be scheduled for Zoom meetings in the first round of interviews. A complete job description is posted prominently on the lakechapalasociety.com website.
