In hopes of encouraging Mother Nature to work her rainy season wonders, local Roman Catholics are getting ready to raise prayers to Mother Mary for divine intervention to replenish the parched expanse of Lake Chapala.
Throngs of pilgrims will congregate to manifest their faith in La Virgen de Zapopan on Sunday, July 14 when the revered icon arrives for her traditional summer visit to Chapala.
She is accredited with propitiating the lake’s miraculous recoveries from severe droughts in the mid-1950s and the turn of this century that earned her the honorary title La Reina del Lago.
