Lakeside poet Oskar Santoscoy will host a cocktail reception and reading of Son de Palabras, the sonnet collection that earned him the 2021 Tintanueva National Poetry Award.
The event will take place on Saturday, November 9, at 4:30 p.m. at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes (CCAR) in La Floresta. Admission is free and open to the public.
Originally from Mexico City, Santoscoy is a versatile artist who moved to Riberas de Pilar several years ago to open Gallo Gallery. Though he developed an early interest in writing, he initially pursued acting. While studying theater, he came to see it as a form of literature, inspiring him to write monologues. His piece The Voyage of Liberty in an Instant won a 2002 award in a competition by the National Council for Culture and Arts.
Since then, he has written and published five poetry collections, each exploring various poetic forms. Son de Palabras features 20 sonnets divided into three chapters: Introspection, Double Breath, and Exaltation.
The event will be hosted by Miguel de la Cruz, a prominent television reporter specializing in cultural topics, and Tapatío artist-writer Ana Laura Warren Vega. Journalist Dale Hoyt Palfrey will present English translations of select sonnets, with Centro Cultural Ajijic administrator Claudia Miramontes Moranchell serving as moderator.
