Ni la Muerte nos Separa is the theme of Jocotepec’s 2025 Día de los Muertos celebration.
The program, running from October 30 to November 2, includes a Día de Muertos-themed costume contest for children ages 4 to 8 at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 31; a Catrina impersonation contest for youth ages 16 to 25 at 8 p.m. on November 1; and an artistic Catrina makeup competition from 7 to 10 p.m. on November 1 and 2, all taking place at the town plaza.
The local government’s education department is also sponsoring a cellphone photography contest, with entries to be submitted on November 3 and 4. The best shots will be exhibited at the Casa de Cultura from November 5 to 7, with winners announced on the latter date.
Meanwhile, neighboring San Juan Cosalá celebrates its annual Paseo Michincihualli lake goddess festival on November 1 and 2. The traditional program features the reenactment of pre-Hispanic rituals at the lakefront during sunset, a spectacular candle-lit altar display set up at the village bandstand, and a variety of music and dance performances each evening at the central square.
