Eight Americans die in Quintana Roo bus crash

A tour bus carrying 27 tourists of various nationalities flipped over on a highway in the  state of Quintana Roo Tuesday, killing 12 people.

Eight of the deceased are from the United States, including an 11-year-old boy and a grandmother from South Florida. The passengers had all disembarked from two Caribbean Cruises ships in the coastal town of Mahahual and were traveling to the Mayan ruins of Chacchoben, about 100 miles from Tulum.  The cause of the accident is still being investigated but it is believed no other vehicles were involved.
