Walmart strike averted

In order to avoid a general strike planned for March 20, Walmart de Mexico is giving its entire workforce a 5.5-percent pay raise and is recognizing their right to join the union of their choice.

After lengthy negotiations, Walmart reached an agreement with the Confederación Revolucionaria de Obreros y Campesinos (CROC), Mexico’s most influential trade union, which represents around 4.5 million workers and agricultural laborers.

As part of the agreement, the company also agreed to pay workers an annual bonus related to the profitability and productivity of each outlet.

Walmart de Mexico employs more than 200,000 people in 2,400 outlets across the country, including Walmart, Bodega Aurrera, Sam’s Club and Superama stores.
