Strict food labeling approved as nation’s obesity levels soar

New regulations mandating warning labels on certain food products have been approved by federal legislators in a bid to get Mexico’s obesity problem under control.

Under the new rules, which are expected to be contested by the food industry, food that is high in calories, salt and saturated fats must have a label stating this fact on the front of their packaging. Products must also state clearly that they contain caffeine or other substances that might be harmful to children.
