Conservative groups seek to block sex education in schools

The conservative National Action Party (PAN) has introduced a proposal in the Jalisco Congress that would allow parents to decide whether their children receive education in sexual matters in their schools.

Known as the “Parental Pin,” the measure has already been debated – and once rejected in Nuevo Leon – by legislatures in several Mexican states.

In Nuevo Leon, the controversial proposal stipulated that schools must have prior approval from parents or legal guardians of students to teach classes that are “ethically and morally controversial.”
