Carta Blanca, one of Mexico’s oldest and most recognizable beer brands, has launched a series of four special edition, collectible cans to mark its 130th anniversary. Carta Blanca was the original brand produced by the Cervecería Cuauhtémoc brewery founded in Monterrey in 1890.
One of the commemorative cans recalls the 20-some international awards given to the brand, including the “Grand Prize for Beer” attained at the World Fair held in St. Louis, Missouri in 1904. Another can recognizes when, in 1960, Carta Blanca became the first brand of beer to be bottled in caguamas, the popular 940-milliliter returnable bottles.
A third can recalls Carta Blanca’s achievement of being named as an official beer supplier to the Spanish crown in 1908.
Cuauhtémoc merged with the Moctezuma Brewery (the producers of Sol and Dos Equis) in 1988, and the company was acquired by the Dutch brewing company Heineken in 2010.
