Weatherington worked as a professional photographer most of his life before moving to Ajijic in 1988 after his retirement. He was an active member of the Ajijic Society of the Arts, and many of his photographs, particularly those of floral and woodland scenes, won prizes. He recently had an exhibition of his photographs at the Mio Cardio Gallery in at Guadalajara's Chapalita neighborhood. His photographic subjects included portraits of some of Lakeside's most famous people, including Neil James, the benefactor who bequeathed her home to the Lake Chapala Society.
Weatherington was among the first in the village to have telephone service in his house; but laughed that there were few others to telephone.
Although not a volunteer, he was a generous financial contributor to many Lakeside projects and charities.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Cox, of Quapaw, Oklahoma; two nieces, Kathy Degollado and Staci Gaddis; two nephews, Steve and David Cox; 13 great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew and many friends at Lakeside.
His friends will gather at a "Parting Party" Saturday, March 1, 5 p.m. at Weatherington's home. All are invited to come with a story about Jack, along with finger food to share and beverage of choice.
