Teachers go back to school

Around 7,00 primary school teachers in Jalisco will take professional evaluation exams on Friday.

The idea is to assess the standard of their teaching and look for areas of general improvement. But the price for failure? None. Thanks to a deal struck with the Public Education Department, even teachers who score zero on the test will not be at risk of losing their jobs.  Nonetheless, thousands of teachers in states such as Michoacan, Oaxaca and Guerrero are refusing to sit the exams.
