The new 911 emergency hotline number has taken effect in Jalisco, although the 066 number will still be active for several months more.
The number was simultaneously introduced in 15 states on January 9. Sixteen states had subscribed to the number in October of last year. It will soon be the only national emergency number in the country.
The emergency number can be reached from any telephone device. It connects callers to an emergency dispatch office, from where operators can transfer calls to the corresponding emergency service. 
For those with emergencies in the Lake Chapala area, direct numbers to call are as follows: Cruz Roja Chapala: (376) 765-2308; Protección Civil/Bomberos (firefighters): 766-5252; Seguridad Pública (Police Dept.) 765-4444. Local calls to 911 should be reconnected to these emergency agencies.
