The corpses of three murder victims were discovered early Tuesday, May 15 at two sites located within the boundaries of Jocotepec.
Around 7 a.m., a male victim was found dumped under a wrought-iron park bench in the central plaza of San Juan Cosalá. His body was enclosed from neck to ankles in a plastic garbage bag, with a half-dozen bullet shells scattered nearby. The assassins left a message scrawled on blood-drenched pieces of cardboard, reading partially in loose translation, “This is what happens for following orders of a scum named Marcela and abusing the pueblo on behalf of her old man.”
Shortly after 10 a.m. police were called to the town of Zapotitán de Hidalgo, where a man and a woman, presumably the aforementioned Marcela and her male partner, were found dead inside a white truck. According to one local media source, another man gravely wounded by gunfire was rescued at the same spot and rushed to hospital.
In the aftermath, San Juan residents indicated that all four persons pertained to a criminal gang that was known for extorting local businesses.
