San Miguel de Allende has been selected as the American Capital of Culture 2019 by the International Bureau of Cultural Capitals.
The organization will contribute funds for 8,000 television spots in 45 countries, with an estimated value of around $US2 million, according to a report in Lonely Planet. Created in 1998, the designation has been awarded to five Mexican cities, including Guadalajara. In 2017, Travel + Leisure magazine named San Miguel as the best city in the world for the second consecutive year.
