The tax for purchasing a used vehicle in Jalisco (Impuesto sobre la adquisición de vehículos automotores usados) will go up significantly in 2020, after state legislators approved changes to the Ley de Ingresos.
Those who bought vehicles for less than 61,500 pesos last year paid a two-percent tax on the transaction. The tax increases exponentially as the value of the vehicle rises: for example a vehicle changing hands for 100,000 pesos in 2019, would have hit the purchaser with 2,962 pesos in tax (2.9 percent of the car’s value).
