Jalisco plastic bag ban fines put on ice for next 12 months

Although laws banning single-use plastic bags and non-decomposable plastic packaging (such as straws and foam food containers) in Jalisco officially kicked in at the start of the year, stores and businesses may continue to provide them as economic sanctions won’t start until January 1, 2021.

The state’s 125 municipalities will have another 12 months to update their local regulations to allow inspectors to slap fines on grocery stores and other establishments that distribute bags and other items contravening the official norms.
