Party boat capsizes in Puerto Vallarta

A gay party boat with 55 passengers on board sank off the Quimixto beach of Puerto Vallarta Friday, January 1.

Thankfully, no one was injured and everyone was either picked up by other boats in the vicinity or managed to make it to shore safely.

According to reports and social media posts, the revelers, some of them from the United States, had paid up to US$150 for the all-day binge. Pinknews.co.uk said the deal included access to a “secluded men-only, ‘clothing optional’ beach jammed with gogo dancers and a live DJ.”

The capsizing occurred at the end of the event, as the boat was making its way back to the dock. Videos of the incident taken by passengers showed there were ample life jackets to go around.

Posting on social media, one passenger described the experience as “scary,” and another said it was “like being on the Titanic.”

Although the prevailing winds were calm on New Year’s Day, Jalisco’s Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit warns boat captains that conditions at the coast can change abruptly.
