Mexican judge releases brother of DEA’s ‘Most Wanted’ fugitive

A federal judge ordered the release of Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, the brother of one of Mexico’s most wanted drug traffickers, a few days after his April 21 arrest by officers from the Mexican Army and National Guard in the Jalisco town of Autlán de Navarro.

pg3bHis famous sibling, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” is the presumed leader of Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), on whose head U.S. authorities have placed a whopping  $US10 million bounty.

According to various reports, prosecutors from the Mexican Attorney General’s Office (FGR) failed to provide the judge with sufficient proof that Abraham Oceguera, alias  “Don Rodo,” was in possession of illegal firearms, the stated reason for his arrest.  There were also several rights violations made during the arrest, according to sources close to the judge, and officers allegedly detained Abraham Oceguera without a arrest warrant.

In a statement, the FGR said it would file an appeal against the judge’s decision to release Abraham Oceguera, who Mexican authorities say is one of the main financial operators of the CJNG.

The FGR added that it would file criminal complaints against local police officers in Autlan who allegedly tried to prevent federal officers from arresting Abraham Oseguera.
