Jalisco’s third airport, Chalacatepec Airport, designed to serve the Costalegre region, was officially inaugurated last week.
However, it remains uncertain when domestic or international carriers will begin operations on its pristine runway. In the short term, once federal approval is granted, the airport is expected to serve private planes as an access point to northern Jalisco’s coastline.
Located 116 kilometers south of Mismaloya and 82 kilometers north of La Manzanilla, in the municipality of Tomatlán, the airport is now complete, Enrique Alfaro announced last week after landing at the facility in a private jet, in one of the final official acts of his administration. He confirmed that discussions with federal authorities regarding permits and potential concessionaires to operate the airport were underway.
