Adoption chief steps down in video row

Adoptions in Jalisco may be placed on hold following the release of a video that appears to show two psychologists trying to convince two girls at a Guadalajara children’s home to be adopted by an Italian rather than a Mexican couple.


Road deaths up

The number of deaths from traffic accidents in Jalisco this year is 15 percent up on 2011, according to figures released by the Jalisco Forensic Science Institute. Between January 1 and June 12, 221 people have died as a result of traffic accidents, compared to 179 in the same time period last year.

Exports growing

In the first three months of 2012 exports from Jalisco were 36 percent higher than in the same period of last year, according to the Jalisco State Information System (Seijal). The total value of exports from January to March this year was 11.5 billion dollars, up from 8.4 billion dollars in 2011.

More jobs

Employment has risen steadily in Jalisco in 2012, with 21,275 new jobs created since the turn of the year. If growth continues at this rate Jalisco will surpass last year’s total of 41,950 jobs created and could reach the milestone of 50,000.
