Live from the Met

Bel canto superstars Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Florez (above) join forces for The Lady of the Lake, a Rossini showcase of vocal virtuosity, set in the medieval Scottish highlands and based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott.

Tuesday recitals

The Degollado Theater opens its doors each Tuesday for the free classical music series Martes de Musica y Opera. No tickets are sold nor is there numbered seating. Just turn up before the performance and grab a seat. The quality is always high, and the theater will often fill up.  March 17: a recital by baritone Sergio Meneses, accompanied by Monica del Ágila (violonchello) and  Raquel Waller (piano). March 24: Piano recital by Jose Sandoval. Works by Mozart, Paganini, Bach and Rachmaninoff, among others.

Concert

The Mexican-Lebanese Eblen Macari Ensamble is joined by the local Quark Ensamble to play a mix of Arabic, baroque, jarocho and contemporary music.

Opera & show tunes

The Orquesta Sinfonica de Zapopan, directed by Guillermo Salvador, performs music from classic operas and Broadway musicals such as “Cats,” Beauty and the Beast,” “Les Miserables,” “The Lion King,” and others.  The invited soprano is Claudia Cota.  Expect works by Verdi, Rossini and the like to be jumbled up with pieces composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Howard Ashman.

Dance recitals

Free dance recitals are held each Wednesday, showcasing talented modern groups from Guadalajara and elsewhere.

Contemporary dance show based around the natural sounds of wooden musical instruments.

Soprano Carla Lopez-Speziale is the guest artist for the fourth in the Tchaikovsky series. The Jalisco State Choir is led by Sergio Hernandez.
