Music to ‘end the summer’

The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) is to present a “special concert” billed to “round off the summer” under the direction of Anatoly Zatin, with assistance from tenor Gabin Gaschen and 11-year-old piano prodigy Daniela Liebman.

Liebman, who comes from a family of musicians, began her music studies at the age of three. By the time she was eight she had already turned professional and participated in national and international music competitions. Her rapid progression led to further appearances at competitions and festivals in the United States, Italy and Spain.

Liebman is currently under the wing of Zatin, a Russian music professor who teaches her at the music department at the University of Colima.

She will perform in the first part of the JPO program, which features Shostakovich’s “Concerto No. 2” and “Festive Overture.”

Gaschen, who has performed in dozens of musicals on Broadway and in Europe, will appear in the second part, interpreting well-known tunes such as “Come what may,” “I got rhythm,” “The music of the night” and “When the night falls,” by composers such as George Gershwin, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lionel Richie.

This promises to be an excellent and fun program directed by Zatin, a longtime resident of this region who is fast making a name for himself as a regular JPO guest conductor.

Teatro Degollado, Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 13, 8 :30 p.m. 150-300 pesos.
