Entertainment Guide – August 9, 2014

Martes de Musica
Free classical performances by talented musicians are held each Tuesday at the Degollado Theater. No tickets are sold – just turn up. Early birds may get to sit in a semi-circle on the stage, in close proximity to the performers.  August 12: Juan Pardo (trombone), Timothy Welch (piano), Guadalupe Corona (harp); August 19: Classical musicians from San Jose, California, with the Nima Quartet; August 26: recital with flautist Nancy Ulate and invited guests.

Thursday recitals
The Guadalajara council chamber opens its doors to Thursday recitals and concerts.  August 21: Oriental music with Ari Omar Jimenez; August 28: Cello quartet.

Wednesday Dance
Free dance recitals by accomplished troupes are scheduled each Wednesday in August at 8 p.m.

John Medeski
U.S. jazz keyboards player and composer John Medeski, a veteran of New York’s 1990s avant-garde jazz scene, is joined by Mexico City jazz/rock band A Love Electric to present their new collaborative album, ”Son of a Hero.”

Circus of Death
Black light puppet theater company put on new show that includes elements of Mexican folklore. The genre uses black curtains, a darkened stage and “black lighting” (UV light), paired with fluorescent costumes, to create intricate visual illusions.
