Modern dance festival begins Sunday

The Onesino Gonzalez International modern dance festival runs from October 26 through November 2, with performances scheduled at three city venues.

Named for one of Jalisco’s foremost modern dance pioneers, the festival started in 1999, and each year welcomes a group from a different country. Previous nations showcased include Italy, Colombia, the United States, Canada and Paraguay. Spain were the guests in 2013 and France past year.  

The opening show at the Teatro Degollado features the Última Vez company from Belgium, performing the work, “What the body does not remember,” directed by Wim Vandekeybus. The show is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 7 p.m.

Monday, October 27
Teatro Alarife Martín Casillas, 7 p.m. – “Proyecto cansado” by Quehaceres Menesteres from Mexico City.
Foro de Arte y Cultura, 8:30 p.m. – “4 Visiones del Paraíso” by Contempodanza from Mexico City.

Tuesday, October 28
Teatro Alarife Martín Casillas, 7 p.m. – “Memoria de un pez rojo” by Apoc  Apoc from Mexico City.
Foro de Arte y Cultura, 8:30 p.m. – “Salvoconducto” byAnzar from Jalisco.

Wednesday, October 29
Teatro Alarife Martín Casillas, 7 p.m. – “Umbral de ecos,” experimental dance choreographed by  Paola Vidal from Jalisco.
Foro de Arte y Cultura, 8:30 p.m. – “Sparring Sky” by Delfos from Sinaloa.

Thursday, October 30
Teatro Alarife Martín Casillas, 7 p.m. – “Eco” by Mákina de Turing from Mérida
Foro de Arte y Cultura, 8:30 p.m. – “El estado de las cosas” by Mula Parda from Mexico City.

Friday, October 31
Teatro Alarife Martín Casillas, 7 p.m. –  “Fragilanimala” by Altagracia from Mexico City.
Foro de Arte y Cultura, 8:30 p.m. – “Memorias del Viento” by  Pájaro de Nube from Jalisco.

Saturday, November 1
Teatro Alarife Martín Casillas, 7 p.m. – “Dance Dance  Dance” choreographed by Magdalena Leite and  Aníbal Conde from Mexico City.

Sunday, November 2
Foro de Arte y Cultura, 7 p.m. – The Joven Ballet de Jalisco presents a program of contemporary dance.

The Foro del Arte y Cultura is located at Avenida Prolongación Alcalde 1451, corner of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León. The Teatro Alarife Martín Casillas is right next door at Prolongación Alcalde 1351.
