Auditorium to house unique nativity scene

An out-of-the-box interpretation of the typical Mexican nacimiento (nativity scene) will be put on exhibit in the lobby of the Auditorio de la Ribera, opening for public viewing at a Christmas Festival scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 5 p.m.

Going one better on the standard nacimiento centering on the Bethlehem manger scene, the giant display will be made up of dozens of clay figures set out on diverse landscapes to depict the “History of Salvation.” Individual segments retell familiar Bible stories that bookend the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, running the gamut from Old Testament episodes such as Adam and Eve falling from grace in the Garden Eden, Noah’s Ark, the Tower of Babel, David and Goliath and Moses revealing the Ten Commandments, to New Testament chapters recounting pivotal moments in the life of Jesus, from birth to resurrection.

The collection belongs to the town of San Antonio Tlayacapan, made available on loan and mounted under the direction of its devoted custodian and auditorium manager Vicky Corona.
