For folks hankering to ring in 2016 with a bang, the Chapala government has lined up its first Festival del Año Nuevo for Thursday, December 31, starting around 10 p.m. at the Fuente de Pescadores, Avenida Madero at Paseo Ramón Corona.
The program will feature a Sonora-style orchestra playing tropical tunes for dancing in the street. Organizers at the city hall Grandes Eventos office plan to hand out Globos de Cantoya (tissue paper balloons) among the crowd to light up and send afloat with good wishes for the New Year. A glittering 10-minute fireworks spectacle will blast off at the stroke of midnight. Additional magic and perhaps an earlier starting time were still under consideration at press time.
The public is welcome to join in the fun free of charge.
