Weekly Worship - October 21, 2023

Unitarian UniversalistFellowship

Sunday, October 22, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on the topic “Who are We? Our Unitarian Universalist Heritage.”

Who are we, as Unitarian Universalists? What do you say when someone says “You are a Unitarian Universalist? What is that?” Some folks assume we’re some new-age religion, founded in the 1960’s. Others think we’re really some kind of leftist political party disguised as a church. We’ll explore what Unitarian Universalism is really about, including a bit of our long history, and our core (and evolving) values.

June Wilson and Susie Lindeman will be the service associates.

Sunday, October 29, Bob Koches and Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “Loss and Loneliness.” Jane Castleman and Christy Caldwell will be the service associates.

LCUUF services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar, next to Doppio Café, across the road from the Catholic Church.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Sunday, October 22, Pastor Wayne will talk about “The Miracle of the Nobleman’s Son.”

What does it mean to be made whole? Remember that Jesus spoke to the woman who touched the hem of his garment saying, “Your faith has made you whole.” I think wholeness refers to everything about a person: physical wholeness, mental wholeness, and spiritual wholeness. We can find evidence of all these in a miracle called “The miracle of the Nobleman’s Son.”

John is the only one who records this miracle of the nobleman’s son, which proves how particular he was in the selections of those incidents in the life and labors of the Lord he dearly loved. It was probably because of the many important and influential people in Galilee that John recorded this miracle at length.

The English language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala. Spanish service starts at 11 a.m.

Everyone is welcome to Wednesday drop-in Bible study at 10 a.m.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church

“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.”  (John 15:5)

As Christians, Jesus abides in us, and we abide in Him.  That is His promise.  Because of this, we are able to “bear much fruit.”  What is this fruit?  It is how we treat others.  We can give to others through our finances and our time.  Something as simple as holding a door for someone who is having difficulty getting through is a gift to that person.  We don’t have to be wealthy to give of ourselves.  If we have the financial ability to help others who are not as fortunate as we are, that too is bearing fruit.  What have you done today to show that Jesus abides in you?  As Christians, it is our privilege to show Jesus in all out actions.
