Rehearsals are well under way for Los Cantantes del Lago’s 2014 Spring Concert – “Nature’s Music,” directed by Timothy G. Ruff Welch at the Auditorio de la Ribera on Tuesday, March 25, 7 p.m. and Wednesday, March 26, 4 p.m.

Visiting luthier is kept busy during Ajijic stay

Throughout the two-week run of the Scotiabank Northern Lights Music Festival, another key player has been working tirelessly behind the scenes – Leyland Hiphner, a luthier who is in Ajijic by courtesy of his employers, Geo. Heinl & Co of Toronto.

Derived from the French word for lute, a luthier makes or repairs stringed instruments: violins, violas, cellos, basses, guitars, etc.  These are usually divided into two categories, instruments that are plucked and instruments that are bowed. (A bow-maker is an archetier ... but that’s another story.)

Wordsmiths cozy up at Danza del Sol

Authors Lawrence Hill, Miranda Hill, Claudia Long and John Scherber spent two full days sharing experiences, inspirations and practical tips with some 70 curious local scribes as guest presenters at the 10th Annual Lake Chapala Writers Conference, held February 26-28 at Ajijic’s Danza del Sol.
