‘Big draw’ operatic group returns to Open Circle

A favorite in recent years at Ajijic’s Sunday morning event, the Compañía de Ópera de Jalisco, founded in 2013, returns February 16, 10:30 a.m., for a performance of art songs of Mexico and Latin America, which is expected to once again leave the audience “in a haze of euphoria,” according to Lake Chapala Society organizer Margaret Van Every.

Carnaval merrymaking

Ajijic’s Carnaval celebrations kick off this weekend with the first of the local rodeos to be held on three consecutive Sundays, February 2, 9 and 16, 4:30 p.m., at the Lienzo Charro arena, Calle Revolución a block south of the highway.

The cello & guitar: a ‘great combination’

Ajijic’s acoustically superior Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago is the venue for an intimate concert of guitar and cello on January 18 entitled “From Bach to Jobim,” which will benefit the educational organization Opera Guanajuato and bring together the worlds of classical and Latin music.
