The American Society of Jalisco hosted its annual Valentine’s Day Lunch last Thursday, 14 at the society headquarters. The event kicked off to a good start, with around 45 attendees anticipating a three course meal of soup, lasagne and lemon tart.
Helen, who has lived in Guadalajara for 18 years now, explained that for the society, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of friendship, adding that although “there are not so many couples left, it’s still about love and showing care for other people.” The date also marked a special occasion for society member Wayne, who celebrated his 88th birthday that day.
After the day’s successful lunch, AmSoc can look forward to the next St. Patrick’s Day and Mother’s Day events in March. Mother’s Day in particular is an important date in the Mexican calendar and the society will be celebrating with their annual sit-down dinner.
Dining at the society’s events is a pass-time enjoyed by many, as Thursday’s attendees commented on the consistent high quality of food produced by the in-house chefs.
The Mother’s Day event promises to be a special evening with dinner served to table, drinks, raffle and prizes.
Concert
The chamber music group, Camerata Nova Galicia, will give a performance in honor of Guadalajara’s 471st birthday at the Museo de Artes Populares de Jalisco (San felipe 211, Centro) on Saturday, February 16, 8 p.m.
Gymnasts
A team of gymnasts from Denmark gave several performances in Guadalajara this week. The team of 10 boys and 10 girls performed for 45 minutes at the Minerva Glorieta during the Via RecreActiva on Sunday morning, before performing another show in the Parque Metropolitano that afternoon.
