The Junior League of Guadalajara has teamed up with the Liverpool department store to stage a spring/summer fashion show in the delightful surroundings of the Andares shopping mall.

The event will take place on Wednesday, May 15, 5:30 p.m. A donation of 350 pesos, which will go toward the Junior League’s many projects, is required to attend the show.

Among the League’s projects is Mi Bebe y Yo, which helps and orientates mothers of newborns who find themselves in financial difficulties.

Cats & dogs

Free sterilizations for cats and dogs will take place in the Guadalajara municipal area over the next six weeks. The locations and dates are:

May 6-10: Pedro Moreno 1355, city center.

May 13-17: Calle 2 de Abril 1383, Colonia Morelos.

May 20-24: Juan E. Zavala 8, Colonia Medrano.

May 27-May 31: Unidad Administrativa Tetlan.

June 1-June 7: Unidad Clemente Orozco, Miravalle.

Anti-rabies shots and deparasitation is also available. Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on each of the days.

Municipal Book Fair

The 45th edition of the Guadalajara Municipal Book Fair runs from Friday, May 3 to 19, based in the portals of the Palacio Municipal in the city center. Hundreds of books will be on display and sale, while 150 ancillary activities – including conferences, book presentations, concerts, workshops, plays and story-telling sessions for kids – are planned.  This year’s honoree is acclaimed Guadalajara-born author Francisco Rojas Gonzalez, who penned many notable works and won the National Prize for Literature before his death in 1951.

Adopt a tree

Free trees are being given away to those able to replant  and care for them through the goodwill of Extra, an organization that supports former employees of companies working in the media sector.

The trees will be handed out on three consecutive Tuesdays, May 7, 14 and 21, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Plaza Universidad (Av. Alcalde and Juarez (in the city center.

Extra’s stated goal is help turn Guadalajara  into “un bosque urbano” (urban forest).
