Benefit brunches planned for May massacre victims

A buffet breakfast/brunch will be served every Wednesday in March at Salvador’s in Ajijic to benefit the families of the victims of the May 2012 massacre at Lakeside. Food will be served from 8 a.m. until noon and cost 100 pesos.

Residents of the Chapala area were shocked to learn that a number of its native sons were among the bodies of 18 persons found May 9, 2012 in the boundaries of Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos.

The victims were known as upstanding citizens, students and ordinary working folks with no direct involvement in any type of criminal activity.

Many of the victims were at the age when they would have begun to contribute financially at home.

The goal of  the Mayo Memorial Campaña is to raise sufficient funds to make a donation this year to each of the families that were affected by the violence.  It is also hoped to invest a sum for future growth so that donations can continue during the coming years.

In addition, raffle tickets will be on sale for a one-week stay at the Gas Lamp Plaza Suites timeshare/hotel in San Diego’s fabulous Gas Lamp Quarter. The winner gets to choose any week this year.

Raffle tickets will be on sale during the breakfast/brunch for 200 pesos each or three for 500 pesos.  Tickets may also be purchased by contacting This email address is being protected from spambots. The weekly fundraisers will be part of the celebration of the 16th Annual Gandhi-King Season for Peace and Non-Violence.

Donations will be made on April 4, the last day of the season.
