Paella feast to raise funds for police CSI kits

Axixic Masonic Lodge 31 is hosting a gourmet luncheon to raise funds for the purchase of crime scene investigation kits for the Chapala police force. The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 1-4 p.m. at the Hotel Perico, located above the Libramiento by-pass with entrance next to the Michelin tire outlet.

The menu features the famously mouthwatering mixed paella made by local optometrist and culinary master Antonio Pinto, to be accompanied by salad and bread. Tickets going for a donation of 200 pesos are available at the doctor’s office, Optica Pinto, Hidalgo 44, across the street from Mom’s Deli in Riberas del Pilar. Hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., telephone (376) 765-7793.

Selected Chapala police officers recently completed a specialized course in criminology to acquire practical skills in crime scene preservation and forensic investigation. The training program was geared to prepare law enforcement squads for the technical rigors of fulfilling their duties under the new open court judicial system that will be implemented next year.

The local Masons have already supplied Chapala police chief Moises Torres with one tool box of supplies and implements. With additional kits his officers will be able to practice and hone their newly acquired CSI skills.
