A lavish buffet of iconic Mexican dishes and an emotional performance by the San Juan Cosala children’s choir were among the highlights of the second Niños de Chapala y Ajijic (NCA) “Celebration of Mexico” fundraising event held at Restaurante Viva Mexico Tia Lupita.
Several “A” students who applied for NCA assistance and are anxiously waiting for sponsors to become available were introduced to guests by program directors Kenia Sanchez and Lilia Quezada.
During the evening event, some of the bright and industrious youngsters enrolled in the program met their sponsors who are helping them achieve their potential.
To remain in the NCA program, students must maintain a grade average of 80 percent or better. Many students, however, work hard enough to score consistently in the 100-percent range.
The new sponsors who stepped forward during the fundraiser will be richly rewarded by their students’ hard work and success, both Sanchez and Quezada noted.
The excellent spread was provided by Viva Mexico Tia Lupita’s congenial owner Agustin Vasquez Calvario, while the San Juan Cosala children’s choir provoked a few tears to flow with their rendition of John Lennon’s classic ballad “Imagine.”
One of Lakeside’s oldest charities, NCA is a registered non-profit, reporting to state and federal regulatory agencies.
