LCS Health Day: prevention key to well-being

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) sponsors a series of vital health events twice a year during the Fall and Spring Health Days.

On Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday 24, flu, pneumonia, shingles and hepatitis A and B injections will be administered in the LCS Gazebo and can be paid at the time of administration.  A number of health tests and screenings will also be available. 

Many of the services require advance sign up in the LCS office. Some of the medical lectures and instructional talks will have limited seating.

Wednesday, September 23

9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.Injections in the Gazebo.  Pay at the time of injection. Note that flu and pneumonia shots may be taken together but the shingles or hepatitis vaccines cannot be injected on the same day as another injection. Preference will be given those who have pre-registered for the shingles vaccine. Sign up is required for shingles and for lifetime pneumonia injections. 

– Zostavax (shingles vaccine): 2,300 pesos

– Flu: To be announced

– Pneumonia for Life (Prevenar 13): 1,600 pesos

– Pneumonia, five-year: 350 pesos

– Hepatitis (series of three injections): 1,000 pesos each

10 a.m. to noon: Skin cancer screening, free

9:30 a.m. -1 p.m. Diabetes Screening on the Patio, free. Note: Fast or eat a high carb meal two hours before test. Include pancakes, oatmeal, granola, fruit, juice. 

9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Blood Pressure on the Patio, free.

9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Consultations on the Patio, free. Possible interactions of medications and supplements.

10 a.m. Lecture in the Sala:  “All About Shingles” by Dr. Luis Edwardo Moch.

Thursday, September 24

9:30 to 1 p.m. Shots, screenings and consultations on same schedule as previous day.

11 a.m. Lecture in the Sala: “Memory Minders: Dementia Support” by Valeria Rhoda.
