Ajijic-based photographer Xill Fessenden has announced the cancellation of the 2015 Fiesta P’urépecha-Unión de Pueblos, due to circumstances beyond her control.
The colorful festival celebrating the arts, crafts, culture and cuisine of Michoacan’s indigenous communities is customarily held each year in mid-December.
Fessenden cited “personal motives and lack of support” as reason for suspending this year’s program at the Ajijic plaza.
In a Facebook posting of the announcement, a supporter attributed the main stumbling block local authorities who view the fest as a commercial event rather than a cultural happening.
