Weekly Worship - May 14, 2016

Lakeside Presbyterian

May 15 is Pentecost Sunday – the day Christians around the world acknowledge the great gift of God the Holy Spirit to the followers of Jesus.

Pastor Ross Arnold of Lakeside Presbyterian Church will continue his series on worship with a sermon entitled “Looking Back, Looking Forward” – considering how true Christian worship involves remembering what God has done in the past, and anticipating what God has promised to do

Lakeside Presbyterian Church meets in their new church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn towards the lake at Mom’s Restaurant; the church is two blocks down on the right.  English-language services at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at noon.  Everyone is welcome.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “T he writer of Hebrews penned, ‘But without faith it is impossible to please Him (God).’ He never calls for blind faith or a manufactured ‘I hope so …’ or a mere commitment to a doctrine. Faith does not equal believing in spite of evidence. All of those are superstition. Biblical faith is confidence in the Word of God regardless of circumstances or consequences. Rather than blind faith, what is called for is informed faith. When what is ahead is unknown or frightening, the ‘faithful’ obey God’s Word and believe God will work all things for what is right and best. Faith is not a feeling that we conjure up. Rather it is a response to what is revealed in His Word.”

The Lake Chapala Baptist Church celebrates worship service each Sunday, 11 am. at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

New Hope Christian

The non-denominational congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship continues to meet in the upper room of the Presbyterian Church in Ribera del Pilar on Sunday at 11 a.m. Preceding the service is a brief period of refreshment and fellowship.

This week’s service will include hymns, prayers and scripture. Pastor Gene Raymer will also deliver a message on forgiveness. “Forgiveness is often misunderstood,” he says. “We want to look at some misconceptions as well as the benefits of forgiveness.”

No Sunday fellowship is complete until the group shares a meal together. This week will be no different as the group will dine in a local restaurant.

Pastor Raymer welcomes questions regarding what makes their church unique or simply directions to the church. He can be reached at (376) 766-3435 or (333) 724-6179.

Little Chapel by the Lake

St. Andrew’s Anglican

As the 50 days of the Easter season come to a close, in this week’s sermon at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Fr. Winston Welty sees a connection between the Church’s birthday on Pentecost, and Jesus’s birthday at Christmas.

“Hang-Gliding with Jesus” suggests that the gift of God’s Spirit to Mary is mirrored by the gift of that same Spirit to all of God’s people.

The children’s bilingual Sunday School begins at 9:45, and a coffee hour in the Garden follows the worship service.

Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the Church doors.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

San Andres English

Sunday, May 15, Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min. will offer the homily “The Day of Pentecost.”

The day’s gospel will be read by parishioners in a variety of languages.

The choir will sing Pentecost hymns including Bach’s 16th century arrangement of “O Spirit of Life.”
