Weekly Worship - June 25, 2016

Lakeside Presbyterian

Did Jesus really say a person cannot be his disciple unless he hates his father and mother?  What could he possibly have meant by this, and how does it affect those of us today who wish to be his followers?

Sunday, June 26, Pastor Ross Arnold of Lakeside Presbyterian Church will answer these questions and more, as he continues his series on The Cost of Discipleship with a sermon entitled “Hard Sayings.”

Lakeside Presbyterian Church invites everyone to experience their new worship, which features both contemporary and traditional music set to upbeat arrangements.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church meets in their new church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake at Mom’s Restaurant. The church is two blocks down on the right. The English-language service is at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services are at 9 a.m. and noon.  Everyone is welcome.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “Our younger son fell off our horse on the last day that we owned that horse.  Since it was the last day Chief-the-wonder-horse would be in our family, my second-born wanted one last ride. But, since it was to be a short ride and since Chief was never in a hurry, there was no need for a saddle. The horse turned right. The rider did not. And the fall from the tall paint horse produced one of the most obviously broken arms I have ever seen. The ER doctor pointed the bones back the right direction so they would heal. The writer of Hebrews prayed that God would ‘make … perfect’ his readers. The word he used was one used of a doctor setting a broken bone. When you have fallen or failed … on ‘that last ride’ or ‘that only ride’… may the God of peace make you perfect.”

The Lake Chapala Baptist Church celebrates worship service each Sunday, 11 a.m. at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel by the Lake

A lot of people have been and will be involved in this presentation. It’s written by Tom Dowdy-Winslet and will be presented by Donna Burroughs, Nancy Jordan-Zanot and Sue Boyczuk. The service leader is Buddy Dowdy-Winslet.

The Unitarians now meet 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

In this week’s Gospel reading at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Luke says that Jesus “set His face to go to Jerusalem.” Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon asks the question, “Where Am I Set to Go?” Are our faces set on success, looking for revenge, exalting ourselves, excluding others, putting others in the place of God, etc.? In other words, what are our highest priorities, our most important goals?

The Holy Eucharist begins at 10 a.m., preceded by the children’s bilingual Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. A coffee hour in the garden follows the worship service.

On the last Sunday of each month, donations provide lunches for Mezcala schoolchildren. And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the church doors.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.
