Fun-filled LCS picnic kicks off summer season

Nothing says summer fun better than an old-fashioned backyard picnic and the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) did it up big Saturday, June 18 with a well-attended outdoor fling.

Perfect weather prevailed throughout the afternoon as more than 300 folks gathered to live it up in the lush garden grounds. They enjoyed a spread of classic picnic fare including hot dogs and burgers, coleslaw, corn on the cob, cakes and pies, and liquid refreshments.

A big draw for those in attendance was the farewell appearance of the TallBoys Band. Dave Truly, Flip Nicholson, Joel Barker, Dale Hetler, Gary Trego, Milton Bass and Mike Leisenbach are finally hanging up their hats after a great run as Lakeside’s best loved homegrown rock group.  In bidding adios to the community, they got the crowd up and dancing to a foot-stomping repertoire of 60’s and 70’s hits and signature originals like “Somewhere in Mexico.”

Keep your dance shoes handy for the next summer rock-out when LCS brings back the popular Woodstock revival music fest, set for Saturday, July 30. Advance tickets, priced at 100 pesos for LCS members and 150 for non-members are now on sale. Fabulous food will be catered by Alex’s Pasta Bar and Number 4 Restaurant.
