Shriners dish out awesome ribs to help ailing kids

The Lake Chapala Shrine Club attracted a full house to its 13th annual Ribfest, held Wednesday, March 27 at the Cumbres events center.

The event is the Shriners’ major fundraiser to support medical care for local children with physical disabilities.pg20a

In addition to chowing down sumptuous luncheon platters prepared on site and served by Adelita Restaurant of San Antonio, guests enjoyed dancing to the tunes of the Ajijic Jamm Band and bidding on dozens of treasures up for grabs in the silent auction. Local developer Pedro Arrellano held the winning ticket in the 50-50 raffle, turning over the entire 15,300-peso prize to further feed the Shriners’ kitty.

In a brief message to the huge crowd Club President Dave Eccles reported that 402,000 pesos raised last year went toward local medical exams and travel expenses for young patients and their families booked into the Shriners Hospital in Mexico City for surgeries and treatment.
