Carretera Chapala-Ajijic No. 10, Fracc. Chula Vista, Chapala

Lakeside Presbyterian

This week Pastor Ted Rogers, will be our guest preacher, he will talk about The expected Jesus.

The Jesus we never expected. The people of Israel certainly didn’t expect their Messiah to look like, or act like Jesus. The problem is, we, as well, tend to make Christ in our image.

Who was the real Jesus? Join us this Palm Sunday, April 2, as we explore that topic.

We invite everyone to the participate on Good Friday, April 7. A Tenebrae Service is at noon.

English-language service begins at 9:30 a.m. Spanish service begins 11 a.m.

The English service also streams each Sunday at facebook.com/LPCChapala.

• In the weeks ahead as we near Easter, a service of silence (Tenabrae) Will be held at noon on Good Friday and a guest speaker will be in the pulpit on Palm Sunday.

Wednesday drop-in Bible study is at 10 am. It is just as titled, drop in so no long term commitment is required.

If you need a ride, or more information, call 376-106-0853, Thursday, before 4 p.m.

LPC is at Calle San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar, (turn lakeside at Mom’s Restaurant).

Unitarian Universalists

• Sunday, April 2, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will discuss “Getting Out of Our Heads.”

Writer and contemplative Richard Rohr has said “the key to a healthy spiritual life is getting out of the top three inches of our body.” This is the essence of embodied spirituality. In this service, we explore finding balance by getting out of our heads and into our bodies, all the while not leaving our heads too far behind. Gary Young will be the guest musician and June Wilson will be the service associate.

• Sunday, April 9, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will discuss “What’s Easter All About, Anyway?”

Easter is without doubt the most significant day in the Christian calendar. We’ll briefly explore various interpretations of Easter, from traditional theology to more modern (and perhaps controversial) concepts. We’ll also celebrate Comunión de Chocolate (Chocolate Communion), a syncretic amalgamation of indigenous Mexican, Christian, and earth-centered religious concepts into a prototypical Unitarian Universalist sacrament.

• Sunday, April 16, Tran Dang will talk about “The Reality of Young Americans in Mexico: Their Aspirations and Barriers.” LCUUF’s April 16th service will speak to the challenges young Americans face upon emigrating to Mexico with their deported parents. We will have the privilege of hearing a presentation by attorney, Tran Dang, executive director and founder of The Rhizome Center for Migrants, a U.S. nonprofit based in Guadalajara. Ms. Dang will speak about the impact of deportation on children, what dreams U.S. minors still have in Mexico, and the barriers they face in achieving their greatest aspirations.

People joining us on Zoom are encouraged to have on hand a small piece of chocolate (or alternative food) to participate in the ritual.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. In-person services are now available at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptists

Pastor John Linton began his weekly sermon like this last Sunday: “What is the Way of Holiness? The redeemed walk there, in everlasting joy, ‘and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.’” This last citation will no doubt be familiar to you; a verse from Isaiah 35:10 that’s so poetic and profound that, once heard or read, will rarely disappear from our minds.

“I’ve learned one lesson in life,” the Pastor continued, “The oppressor will soon become the oppressed. At the cross, God’s grace pours out deliverance and hope, yet sometimes a Christian delivered from oppression returns to the place of defeat and captivity. But grace never ends at the cross. It is in pursuit of you! And it will not let you go!

“These sweeping tides of oppression and grace apply both to individuals and churches.

Deliverance from the power of sin is not an instant work, but a tidal progression. God brings grace to His people not only to save them, but to change them. Time and again in the scriptures we see God bringing about complete change. During the revival, God moves in the hearts of people. When God sends the winds of revival, there will be change!

“Revival, then, brothers and sisters, is the Way of Holiness, and it belongs only to those who walk upon it.”

Love Easter and Passover? Join us to celebrate the resurrection of Christ Sunday, April 9, 10:45 a.m. The LCBC choir will present inspiring music of the season and Pastor John will deliver a special sermonette. Let’s make the day unforgettable this year by coming together to praise Him!

Share memorable weekly sermons, uplifting music, and an ongoing thirst for true wisdom Sundays, 10:45 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church. Sta. Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.
