Weekly Worship - April 29, 2023

Unitarian Universalists

Sunday, April 30, Janice Kimball will present “From the Inside: What You Didn’t Know About Lakeside’s Festivals—The Key To Understanding Our Mexican Hosts.”

Local artist and writer, Janice Kimball, explores the often uneasy but co-dependent relationships between the Catholic Church and the beliefs of the indigenous culture that predominates in our lakeside communities.

The visual presentation of Janice’s personal photographs focuses most closely on the communities of Mezcala, Ajijic, and Jocotepec. They were gathered during her close ties with these communities over the 24 years she has lived at Lakeside. In the presenter’s narration she will also give an overview of the historical formation and the character of the villages in between.

Rather than using the usual English language descriptions about the relationships between the connecting villages, the narration will be from accounts told to the presenter by indigenous people living at Lakeside. Lynn Cleek will be the service associate.

Sunday, May 7, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will present “All Work and No Play.: Barley Donahue will be the service associate.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. In-person services are now available at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptists

pg18“It’s very simple,” Pastor John told us as he began his Resurrection Sunday sermon. “The resurrection  changes everything. Christ’s resurrection changed the whole world. Nothing else compares to this moment, the single greatest moment in all of history.

“Why does it matter? It proves that every word He said was true. If the resurrection of Jesus is a fraud, there is no hope for humanity, no hope. We live, we try, we fail, we die. But if Jesus rose from the dead, He has brought us unquenchable life.

“The resurrection came as a surprise to everyone, friend and foe. No one expected a strong earthquake, or a mighty angel rolling away a two-ton stone and demonstrating that Jesus was nowhere to be found. Nothing would hold Him back! He rose, went through the walls of the tomb, and left it empty and twelve Roman guards quaking in their boots.

“Search out the Lord, beloved ones! Come and see Him and when you’ve understood the wonder and beauty, the transcendent power of Jesus Christ, then go and tell others that Jesus regenerated your heart of stone, that He lived and died and was born again for us!

“Have you been judged? Have you been changed? Did you fall at the feet of the Savior and say, ‘Here I am Lord, save me!’ Then go and tell!”

Share memorable weekly sermons, uplifting music, and an ongoing thirst for true wisdom Sundays, 10:45 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church. Sta. Margarita 147,  Riberas del Pilar.

Lakeside Presbyterian

Every fifth Sunday of the year, Lakeside Presbyterian presents a testimony by an individual or group. This coming Sunday, April 30, you are invited to a presentation about small groups in the church family based on Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Small groups of individuals met in homes as Christianity began to grow and expand. For multiple reasons some Christians and individuals, do not want or are uncomfortable in a traditional church setting. If you are one of the uncomfortable in a traditional church setting, we ask that you visit and hear and see the benefits of starting or joining a small group.

An additional tradition that has begun is the fifth Sunday brunch. Immediately after service we will gather and enjoy traditional breakfast items. Also individuals will be available to answer any further questions you have about small groups, our outreach and our beliefs.

English-language service begins at 9:30 a.m. Spanish service begins 11 a.m. The English service also streams each Sunday at facebook.com/LPCChapala.
