Lake Chapala Baptist Church

Pastor Larry Clonts presented his sermon, “The True Spirit of Christmas” (Luke Chapters 1-2) as God’s Spirit fills mankind. God’s Spirit filled John (Luke 1:15) and Mary (Luke 1:35). God’s Spirit filled Elizabeth, Mary’s aunt (Luke 1:41). God’s Spirit filled Zechariah, John’s father, after God restored his speech (Luke 1:63-67). God’s Spirit told Simeon he would see God’s salvation before he died (Luke 2:25-28). Anna was used by God’s Spirit (Luke 2:36-38).

God’s Holy Spirit brings unbeliever’s conviction with the gospel truth (John 16:8-11). Repentance and faith in Jesus, brings us eternal life and new nature (John 3:3-7). The Holy Spirit unites the believer with Christ in His body, the church (1 Cor. 12:13).

Heritage Baptist Church

The pre-Christian history of salvation, as recorded in the Old Testament, presents mankind’s need for a Saviour.

Later, the Gospel According to Luke describes the arrival of Messiah: “And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.” After Mary’s arrival, “she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn” (2:4-7).

This Advent take a close look at a nativity scene once again. In the winter of 5 or 4 B.C., God invaded human history by taking on the form of a man. Bethlehem, the town in which Jesus was born, means “house of bread,” and thus became worthy of its name. For there was born the eternal Bread of Life.

Heritage Baptist Church meets upstairs at the Presbyterian Church in Riberas del Pilar Sundays at 11:15 a.m.: Prayer, then the Word at 11:45 a.m. Wednesdays: Bible study at 3 p.m. Info: 333-016-3743, This email address is being protected from spambots.
